Used on the ends of lacings, aglets (such as our 18th Century Aglet) provided a simpler execution of the elaborate lacing that was used to hold clothing together and on the body. Especially common in the 16th and early 17th centuries, they could be plain to fancy. In the 18th century we have found them on stay cords

Used on the ends of lacings, aglets (such as our 18th Century Aglet) provided a simpler execution of the elaborate lacing that was used to hold clothing together and on the body. Especially common in the 16th and early 17th centuries, they could be plain to fancy. In the 18th century we have found them on stay cords of silk and linen. Our 18th Century Aglet is very similar to one we studied in the London Foundlings which was still attached to its dyed red linen stay cord.
Measures 1 inch long and 1/4 inch wide at larger end.
